Tamiflu (oseltamivir) is a medicine that provides protection against flu. Although you may still fall ill when taking Tamiflu as recommended, the probability is a lot lower. Do not take Tamiflu more or less often than prescribed, as in the first case it will not be more efficient, and in the second case you may not be protected from the flu or may not treat all the symptoms. In case you are currently taking any medications that can affect your immune system (azathioprine or cyclosporine), oral steroids (such as prednisone), cancer chemotherapy drugs or tacrolimus, tell your health care provider in advance as your dose may need to be adjusted. If you are unable to swallow the capsule of Tamiflu or have a child who is too young to do it you can pull it open and empty into a bowl that contains some sweetened liquid (syrup and so on). Make sure you mix everything well and take it without storing for future use.

Depending on why you are supposed to take Tamiflu you will be recommended to take it twice a day for 5 days (for the treatment of flu symptoms) or once a day for 10 days or longer to prevent flu. Although this remedy is highly-efficient, getting a flu shot is the best thing you can do in order to avoid falling ill. Measure the exact dosage prescribed by your health care provider and do not take more of this drug than recommended. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are not supposed to start taking Tamiflu before discussing it with a qualified professional that can assess all the risks and make sure they are outweighed by the benefits.
